Rachel Labbe Bellas

"I am a research associate and lab manager for the Aburto lab and the communication & outreach coordinator for the Gulf of California Marine Program. "

Rachel obtained a BS in Biology from McGill University in 2008. In 2013, she completed a MS in Ecology from the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC) in Brazil. Her academic interest involves Tropical Marine Ecology. Today she has over 8 years of volunteer and work experience with benthic, shark, and conservation research. In 2014, she moved to California to pursue her career in marine conservation while making the transition from research to science communication & outreach. Here, she worked for the ocean non-profit Sylvia Earle Alliance Mission Blue as a development coordinator and as a lab assistant at Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO). Currently she is a research associate and lab manager of Aburto lab at SIO and acts as the communication & outreach coordinator for the Gulf of California Marine Program here in San Diego.
